Take Care exists because the hardest conversations families face are the ones nobody wrote down. Founded in Hamilton in 2025 by Dr. Laura Shoots, an emergency physician who spent her career watching families forced to guess at a loved one's wishes, the company makes end-of-life planning something people can actually complete. Her own family taught her both sides of the lesson — one uncle's documented wishes produced a celebration of life; another's absence of plans produced conflict at the worst possible moment. Take Care turns advance-care planning from a morbid abstraction into a gift of clarity. It sits at the intersection of healthcare, technology and grief that Canadians badly need filled. A frontline doctor built it for the families she kept meeting too late.
