Twenty-four hours after giving birth, Canadian women leave the hospital and largely fend for themselves through postpartum recovery, feeding struggles and identity-level exhaustion. Alma Care, co-founded by CEO Melissa Gallagher in Toronto in 2023, built the country's first and only holistic in-home postnatal care platform: certified night nurses, doulas and perinatal support workers delivering everything from newborn care to nutrition, housekeeping and education. The managed marketplace has already supported more than 500 families and delivered 80,000 hours of care. It identified the most vulnerable transition in women's health and productized the village that used to surround it. Alma Care is care infrastructure for the moment the healthcare system steps back. It's answering a question every new mother asks at 3AM: who takes care of me?
