Why are we still shipping water around the world just to clean? That question built Xero Tabs, an Oakville company founded by Donna Custance in 2024 that compresses cleaning solutions into ultra-concentrated tablets: add water at the point of use and get a full-strength product. The model eliminates single-use plastic bottles, slashes shipping weight and strips out the harsh ingredients and fragrances consumers increasingly refuse. It's a direct assault on a century-old industry structure that never questioned whether the bottle was the product. Xero Tabs' insight is that most of what households buy as cleaner is water and packaging — both of which the customer already owns. It's a small Canadian company with an idea big enough to restructure a category.
